CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION

Our 3rd Annual Fall Conference on Clinical Updates in Pediatrics is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician associates, nurses, and other allied healthcare professionals involved in the care of pediatric patients. Our expert faculty will discuss the latest evidence-based advancements in pediatrics, present emerging clinical data, and provide skills and strategies for application and implementation into your practice. This educational activity aims to increase learner knowledge, improve the competence and performance of all attendees, and contribute to their ability to work together as part of a coordinated healthcare team.

Topics for this year’s conference have been selected based on the educational needs underlying identified professional practice gaps. The gaps were derived from a variety of sources including evaluations and outcomes data from past participants, clinical expert input, Symposia Medicus’ online survey, and other medical and nursing data such as current clinical guidelines, research findings, literature reviews, and patient safety considerations.

An outstanding faculty has been assembled for this conference. Each faculty member was selected based on their individual area of expertise and ability to communicate current, evidence-based, and practical information to participants.

The conference format includes didactic lectures, question and answer sessions, case studies, and small group breakouts. Following a group of lectures, the question and answer sessions allow attendees to ask the faculty critical and challenging questions about caring for patients during various pediatric situations.

The breakout sessions, designed to facilitate even greater interaction between faculty and participants, offer an opportunity to engage in group discussions on subjects relating to your particular area of interest. Please indicate your breakout session topic choices on the conference registration form in this brochure. Space is limited, so please reserve early.
 

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

As a result of participating in this conference, you should have increased knowledge and enhanced competence to…

  • Identify approaches to treating sleep problems in children with developmental disorders
  • Differentiate between celiac disease, wheat allergy, and gluten sensitivity
  • Recognize serious illnesses presenting with a complaint of chest pain
  • Discuss common household toxins and their potential for injury, and perform basic management of these substances
  • Develop a non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment plan for neonatal abstinence syndrome

After attending this conference, participants are entitled to a certificate of credit which will be available online. Successful completion of this activity is determined by attending the live activity, reviewing the educational session materials, and submitting the case studies test, evaluations, surveys, and verification of attendance form. Each participant should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

CONFERENCE LODGING INFORMATION

Conference group rates have been arranged at the Fairmont Orchid. Rooms at our group rates are limited and on a first come, first served basis. PLEASE RESERVE EARLY as rooms may sell out and/or room rates may increase. If you wish to extend your stay, group rates may be available three days before and three days after the conference.

Two nights’ deposit (room rate only) must accompany your reservation. The balance of your lodging, hotel fees as stated below, and all incidental charges are due to the hotel. The hotel accepts most major credit cards.

All rooms are approximately 522 square feet and feature a patio area or balcony, depending on the floor. Each room includes: air-conditioning with climate control, bathrobes, Fairmont toiletries, marble bathroom with separate shower and bathtub, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, in-room safe, chiller, Nespresso coffee maker, and 55” LG LCD flat screen television.
 

By booking your lodging with Symposia Medicus, the Resort Fee charge of $40.00 plus 17.962% tax, per room, per night is DISCOUNTED to $15.00 plus 4.712% + 13.75% tax, per room, per night. The Resort Fee includes: Overnight self-parking for one vehicle per room, unlimited basic Wi-Fi access in guest rooms and public areas (ALL members receive an upgrade to premium speed internet access and ALL Platinum members receive $20 credit towards spa services), wellness classes (please see the hotel’s weekly complimentary wellness offerings at the Spa Without Walls), complimentary shuttle bus service within the Mauna Lani Resort area, two branded reusable water bottles per room, per stay, to be filled at purified water stations located throughout the resort, Hawaiian Cultural Classes & Resort Activities (please see the hotel’s weekly activity schedule at the Concierge), lei greeting upon arrival, complimentary snorkel equipment rental for one hour (available to each guest, per day—resort use only), guests who purchase Fun & Sun passes may sign out snorkel equipment multiple times per day (subject to space and availability), 45-minute photo session with Pacific Dream Photography (reservations required, photos available for purchase), and unlimited long distance calls to North America (Canada & America).

Activity Passes are available for purchase for guests of the Fairmont Orchid at the front desk, concierge desk, the Beach Shack, and the Pool Kiosk for $95 per person (13 years & older) and $85 per child (5-12 years old). Children under 5 are free. These one-time purchase passes are good every day of your stay and include all beach rental equipment including boogie boards, soft-top surfboards, stand-up paddle boards, personal floats, one and two-person kayaks, noodles, and more!

  • Bed Type Requests: You can select one or two beds; however, requests cannot be guaranteed until check-in
     
  • Rollaway beds are available at an additional cost of $75 (plus 4.712% + 13.75% tax) per night (subject to availability and change). This fee will be waived if guest is paying additional adult fee. Only one rollaway bed is allowed in a room or suite with a king bed. Rooms with two beds cannot accommodate a rollaway.
     
  • Cribs are available on a complimentary basis (subject to availability and change)
     
  • Connecting rooms can be guaranteed for $75 (plus 4.712% + 13.75% tax) per night; please note that connecting rooms will not be charged nor confirmed until check-in
     
  • Check-in time is 4:00pm and check-out time is 11:00am. A late check-out can only be confirmed on the date of departure by the front desk. Late check-outs are based on availability and additional charges may apply.
     
  • Early Departure Fee: Please notify Symposia Medicus of any changes to your scheduled departure at least 30 days prior to your check-in date. Any changes made to your scheduled departure date within 30 days of your arrival will be charged the full original length of stay.
     
  • Credit/Debit Card Policy: Upon check-in, the hotel requires a credit card or debit card to ensure that funds are available. Holds are placed on your account for your entire stay, plus $100 per room, per day for incidentals. The authorization will hold these funds until check-out, at which time the amount actually incurred during your stay will be charged. The length of time for which these holds remain on your credit or debit account varies from bank to bank.
     
  • Parking: Self-parking is complimentary for conference guests; valet is $5 (plus 4.712% tax) per night (or complimentary for Fairmont Gold) with unlimited access for hotel guests and $25 (plus 4.712% tax) per day for non-hotel guests (subject to change)
     

Conference cancellations must be made in writing (via email) to Symposia Medicus and a refund, less a 10% processing fee, will be given. No refunds will be made if cancellation is received after September 27, 2023; however, tuition, less a 10% processing fee, may be applied to a future Symposia Medicus conference.

Per our hotel contract, hotel reservation cancellations must be made in writing to Symposia Medicus and you will receive a full refund if emailed by August 30, 2023. Between August 31, 2022 and September 27, 2023, one night’s deposit is forfeited. After September 27, 2023, no hotel refunds can be made.

In the unlikely event of conference cancellation by Symposia Medicus, full tuition and, if reservation was made with Symposia Medicus, hotel deposit refunds will be made. Symposia Medicus will not be responsible for refunding travel or any other expenses.

Each registrant will have online access to educational session materials. The educational session materials will be available for download approximately one week prior to the conference (you’ll receive an email with instructions).

If you are unable to attend this conference, you may purchase an electronic copy of the educational session materials one week after the conference. Please email publications@symposiamedicus.org for more information.
