CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION

Taking place over the course of four days, our 5th Annual Conference on Challenges in Mental Healthcare for the Primary Care Provider provides practical, evidence-based care tips for treating patients with challenging psychiatric and psychosocial concerns. Designed for physicians, certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, physician associates, nurses, and other allied healthcare professionals who manage patients of all ages, this course emphasizes team-based problem solving. Throughout the sessions, our expert faculty will guide you and your fellow providers as you collaborate amongst yourselves and collectively practice skills and strategies for application and implementation into your practice. This educational activity aims to increase both the competence and performance of all attendees as well as contribute to your ability to work together as part of a coordinated healthcare team.

Topics for this year’s conference have been selected based on the educational needs underlying identified professional practice gaps. The gaps were derived from a variety of sources including evaluations and outcomes data from past participants, clinical expert input, Symposia Medicus’ online survey, and other medical and nursing data such as current clinical guidelines, research findings, literature reviews, and patient safety considerations.

An outstanding faculty has been assembled for this conference. Each faculty member was selected based on their individual area of expertise and ability to communicate current, evidence-based, and practical information to participants.

The conference format includes didactic and interactive lecture sessions, question and answer sessions, and case studies. Following a group of lectures, the "What Have We Learned" sessions allow attendees to ask the faculty critical and challenging questions about caring for patients during various mental healthcare situations.

  • Describe medication and behavioral interventions for mood, affective and attention disorders in pediatric patients
  • Recognize, diagnose and develop management approaches for adults with personality, affective, anxiety, and substance use disorders
  • Develop a differential diagnosis to evaluate agitation, dementia, and delirium and treatment approaches for each
  • Describe various psychotherapy approaches with a focus on engaging patients in basic cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) interventions
  • Develop approaches to diagnosing and treating somatic and related disorders
  • Discuss considerations of special issues related to the identification and management of mood disorders across a woman’s life cycle

After attending this conference, participants are entitled to a certificate of credit which will be available online. Successful completion of this activity is determined by attending the live activity, reviewing the educational session materials, and submitting the case studies test, evaluations, surveys, and verification of attendance form. Each participant should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has assigned up to 18 cognate credits to this program.

This continuing medical education activity has been reviewed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and is acceptable for a maximum of 18 AAP credits. These credits can be applied toward the AAP CME/CPD Award available to Fellows and Candidate Members of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

NCCPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. Physician associates may receive a maximum of 18 hours of Category 1 credit for completing this program.

CONFERENCE LODGING INFORMATION

Conference group rates have been arranged at the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel. Rooms at our group rates are limited and on a first come, first served basis. PLEASE RESERVE EARLY as rooms may sell out and/or room rates may increase. If you wish to extend your stay, group rates may be available three days before and three days after the conference.

Two nights’ deposit (room rate only) must accompany your reservation. The balance of your lodging, hotel fees as stated below, and all incidental charges are due to the hotel. The hotel accepts most major credit cards.

Concierge lounge access includes complimentary continental breakfast, daily midday snacks, hors d’oeuvres and dessert, non-alcoholic beverages, and business services.
 

All rooms are non-smoking and approximately 375 sq. ft. and feature either one king bed or two double beds. Rooms also include air conditioning, deluxe bedding, luxurious bathrobes, spa-quality bath essentials, mini-refrigerators, coffee makers with complimentary coffee, flat screen TVs with plug-in high tech panel, premium movie channels, and pay-per-view movie access.

Due to strict fire codes, rollaway beds and cribs are not permitted in a room with two beds. Only one rollaway or crib is permitted in a room with a king bed.
 

By reserving your lodging with Symposia Medicus, the $20 per room, per night Destination Fee is waived. The fee includes (subject to change): coffee in the lobby, wireless high speed internet access, gym access, complimentary Quench water bottle filling stations around the property, daily wine pour from 5:00-6:00pm in the lobby, daily s’mores from 6:00-6:30pm by the firepits, 1-hour complimentary electric bike rental (per stay, per guest), and daily yoga/fitness class at 7:30am.

  • Credit/Debit Card Policy: Upon check-in, the hotel requires a credit card or debit card to ensure that funds are available. Holds are placed on your account for your entire stay plus estimated incidentals; however, the amount may be immediately deducted from your account. The length of time for which these holds remain on your credit or debit account varies from bank to bank.
     
  • Parking: Self-parking is complimentary and valet is not available at this hotel
     
  • Conference cancellations must be made in writing (via email) to Symposia Medicus and a refund, less a 10% processing fee, will be given. No refunds will be made if cancellation is received after June 8, 2022; however, tuition, less a 10% processing fee, may be applied to a future Symposia Medicus conference.
     
  • Per our hotel contract, hotel reservation cancellations must be made in writing to Symposia Medicus and you will receive a full refund if emailed by May 11, 2022. Between May 12, 2022 and June 8, 2022, one night’s deposit is forfeited. After June 8, 2022, no hotel refunds can be made.
     
  • All cancellations must be emailed to registrar@symposiamedicus.org by the dates stated above
     
  • In the unlikely event of conference cancellation by Symposia Medicus, full tuition and, if reservation was made with Symposia Medicus, hotel deposit refunds will be made. Symposia Medicus will not be responsible for refunding travel or any other expenses.

Each registrant will have online access to educational session materials. The educational session materials will be available for download approximately one week prior to the conference (you’ll receive an email with instructions).
