CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION
Our 29th Annual Summer Conference on Pediatric Emergencies is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician associates, nurses, and other allied healthcare professionals involved in the care of pediatric patients. Covering a wide array of topics, our expert faculty will discuss the latest evidence-based advancements in pediatrics, present emerging clinical data, and provide skills and strategies for application and implementation into your practice. This educational activity aims to increase learner knowledge, improve the competence and performance of all attendees, and contribute to their ability to work together as part of a coordinated healthcare team.
Topics for this year’s conference have been selected based on the educational needs underlying identified professional practice gaps. The gaps were derived from a variety of sources including evaluations and outcomes data from past participants, clinical expert input, Symposia Medicus’ online survey, and other medical and nursing data such as current clinical guidelines, research findings, literature reviews, and patient safety considerations.
An outstanding faculty has been assembled for this conference. Each faculty member was selected based on their individual area of expertise and ability to communicate current, evidence-based, and practical information to participants.
The conference format includes didactic lectures, question and answer sessions, and case studies. Following a group of lectures, the question and answer sessions allow attendees to ask the faculty critical and challenging questions about caring for patients during various pediatric emergency situations.
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
As a result of participating in this conference, you should have increased knowledge and enhanced competence to:
• Implement new concepts in the diagnosis of common airway issues in pediatrics including bronchiolitis, asthma, tracheitis, and croup
• Recognize paroxysmal pediatric disorders and differentiate the serious from the benign
• Apply evidence-based principles for the initial evaluation and management of pediatric bites and stings, including indications for emergency treatment and antivenom
• Recognize non-IgE mediated food allergy disorders in children
• Apply appropriate diagnostic, infection-control, and management strategies when evaluating an unvaccinated or under-vaccinated child with suspected vaccine-preventable illness
ATTENDEE REQUIREMENTS
After attending this conference, participants are entitled to a certificate of credit which will be available online. Successful completion of this activity is determined by attending the live activity, reviewing the educational session materials, and submitting the case studies test, evaluations, surveys, and verification of attendance form. CONFERENCE LOCATION
The setting for our conference is the beautiful Big Sky Resort, nestled in the majestic Northwestern Rockies, just an hour drive from Bozeman, Montana.
Big Sky is host to a multitude of summer activities. Take a scenic chairlift ride up Lone Mountain and experience wonderful hiking and mountain biking, enjoy an invigorating horseback ride, or take to the rivers for incredible fly fishing and whitewater rafting. Big Sky also offers an 18-hole golf course, as well as a number of tennis courts, all with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
The resort’s close proximity to Yellowstone National Park (the western entrance to the park is less than an hour away) is yet another element of Big Sky’s appeal. Plan to spend time observing the nation’s most impressive geysers and hot springs, including “Old Faithful Geyser,” and be awestruck by the ever-present wildlife and majestic scenery in our country’s first established National Park.
Big Sky Resort is a self-contained village with many restaurants from which to choose, as well as live evening entertainment and dancing. The resort has a giant heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, full spa, and whirlpools to help soothe those aching muscles at the end of a busy day. A full range of shops are available in and around Big Sky Resort, offering everything from hiking supplies to fine art.
Whatever your pleasure, you’ll be sure to find it in Big Sky, at our 29th Annual Summer Conference on Pediatric Emergencies.
