CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION

Our conference on Current Issues in Women’s Health is designed for OB/GYNs, family physicians, certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, PAs, nurses, and all other healthcare professionals who care for female patients. Taking place over the course of three days and covering a wide array of topics such as sexual dysfunction, treating the LGBTQI+ population, menopause, prolapse, HPV testing and vaccine, and incontinence, our expert faculty will discuss the latest evidence-based advancements in women’s healthcare, present emerging clinical data, and provide skills and strategies for application and implementation into your practice. This educational activity aims to increase both the competence and performance of all attendees as well as contribute to your ability to work together as part of a coordinated healthcare team.

Topics for this year’s conference have been selected based on the educational needs underlying identified professional practice gaps. The gaps were derived from a variety of sources including evaluations and outcomes data from past participants, clinical expert input, Symposia Medicus’ online survey, and other medical and nursing data such as current clinical guidelines, research findings, and literature reviews.

The conference format includes didactic lectures, question and answer sessions, and case studies. Following a group of lectures, the question and answer sessions allows attendees to ask the faculty critical and challenging questions about caring for patients during various specialty-related situations.

An outstanding faculty has been assembled for this conference. Each faculty member was selected based on their individual area of expertise and ability to communicate current, evidence-based, and practical information to participants.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

As a result of participating in this conference, you should have increased knowledge and enhanced competence to…

Discuss both medical and psychological interventions that can be implemented to help treat female sexual problems

Effectively utilize non-hormonal prescription medications and evaluate the data on complementary and alternative methods to address menopausal syndromes such as SSRIs and SNRIs to treat menopausal hot flashes

Recognize difficulties in diagnosing and treating painful bladder syndrome

Review the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) updates and role of vaginal HPV screening for cervical cancer and post-hysterectomy vaginal cuff

Discuss the impact of risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) in BRCA1 or BRCA2 and in other genetic mutation carriers
